How Much Weight?
The worksheet below includes the typical weights of some common parts of
1-ounce regatta boats for illustration. List your boat parts and weights. Be sure
to add any items not listed. Include a guess (about 0.1 oz) for paint and other coatings.

TOTAL WEIGHT |
|
|
________ |
Multiply each item weight by its quantity and enter the total in the
last column. Add all the item Total Weights and enter the result in the
TOTAL WEIGHT field. If your regatta boat has to weigh at least 1 ounce, the
amount of weight to add to your boat is 1 oz - TOTAL WEIGHT. Use your
weight limit instead of 1 ounce if it is different.
Extra weight needed = (your weight limit) - (TOTAL WEIGHT). |

Often times, pennies make good weights. A penny weighs a little less than a tenth of an ounce; 11 weigh about an ounce. Cut a slanting slot into the top of your hull. Make it just in front of your sail or better, under the sail before you put it on.
